When you look at Janet Mock, you see a stylish, petite, beautiful, mix-raced woman who’s made a successful life for herself as a blogger in New York City and who has a very good looking, very loving boyfriend.
So what makes Janet Mock so special? Well, like quite a few people we know in the LGBT community, Janet was born a man. But unlike those people, she has shared the coming out of her truth to her boyfriend with everyone she knows– and everyone online.
Mock is setting a strong example for gay men and women, straight men and women, and transgendered men and women everywhere with an article she wrote for the website XOJane describing in heartbreaking detail what it was like having to tell her near-perfect boyfriend that she was born a man.
She takes us from her first meeting of boyfriend, to falling in love, to getting emotionally naked before telling him her entire story– from birth as a boy to displaying as a female at age 12 to getting her surgery at age 18.
If you’re looking for a little Wednesday afternoon pick-me-up, read Janet’s short-memoir about life as a woman living as a woman, and how it’s shaped her relationship and her life.
